Description of RN release scenario

The hypothetical nuclear explosion started on March 17 at 22:25 UTC close to Iceland (Longitude: -27.31; Latitude: 63.49). 1.3 10^15 Bq of tracer material was released equally distributed between surface and 150 m. The release duration was 3 hours. Due to the prevailing weather situation, the plume was first transported across Greenland (towards the west). Subsequently, it was transported towards the east and reached Spitzbergen on day 3 after the hypothetical explosion. Further transport mostly occured in higher altitudes. The elevated plume finally subsided towards the surface above central and mediterranean parts of Europe, causing remarkably high detections there on day 6 and the following. In total, the whole explosion would have caused more than 170 detections at 27 different stations within 10 days.
